I signed up for a hula class while in Wakiki Beach this past weekend for my husband and myself, but he decided he wanted to nap instead (I think he just didn’t want to do the hula 🤣).
So I rolled up to the hula lesson 7 minutes late with 2 other strangers already there learning to hula, and all I felt was genuinely proud of myself. Not for doing it well, just for doing it at all.
As a kid I was known in our family for not being a good dancer (basically a crime in a Black family) so when I went to college I joined 2 dance groups to prove to myself that I could (with directions 😌). It’s funny that I now seek out dance to prove I got a lil rhythm.
I’ve started not only wanting to connect with my own roots, but also more with the cultures of others. And learning something new always teaches you a lot about who you are. You ever notice that?
Lately I’ve learned so much about who I truly am when no one who knows me is watching. I’ve been making a point to learn new things more often, and yes, I even got hubby to learn something new with me too: the ukulele.
This month we’re highlighting the Nester Unbothered Type with a Ritualist wing (see quiz) and in true Nester fashion, I always bring something home with me for the house. This time it was a little pineapple plush that says Hawaii and now sits on my desk or nightstand (wherever I am at the time because I love him). Learn more about
Coming home always feels like something. Especially after you’ve learned something new about yourself while you were away.

This month’s Collection was built for the woman who understands that a beautiful home is one of the most radical acts of self-regard she can make. The Refresh Ceremony asks you to spend an evening with one room making it yours again.
And The Freedom Stroll asks you to step into the cultural heartbeat of June — to be a witness and a participant in what this month means when you let it be lived, not just observed.
One of the Unbothered has already made hers!! I shared it here in this TikTok.
If you haven’t started your rituals yet, The Ancestor Shelf is the place to begin. Make it something that says: I remember who came before me, and I’m honoring them in how I live.
This month, Club members received a full June Collection built around one question: what does it mean to come home to yourself? Two solo dates, two recipes (including Sunday Smothered Chicken and a Peach Honey Sweet Tea that tastes like summer in a glass), twelve monthly rituals for the mind, body, and home — and a letter written specifically for The Nester, this month’s Featured Unbothered Type.
New member window is now open for the July collection. If you wish you had joined already, don’t miss out again.

I used to collect shot glasses from every place I traveled. But I’m not taking shots (usually 😝) anymore, so I wanted a new tradition. My mom and I have been into enamel lapel pins lately and apparently they’re always in the airport gift shop right before you leave, shaped exactly like something relevant to the place you were just in.
I got one for us in Ireland shaped like a shamrock. And now I got one for each of us in Hawaii (one that says Aloha in yellow for Mom and one that says Diamond Head Mountain which I hiked with hubby during the trip). Small, specific, permanent. The perfect way to carry a country home.
